Nusantara Beat are a band from Amsterdam, but the roots their members lie in Indonesia – and you can hear that immediately. The term «Nusantara» refers to the diverse Malay archipelago of Southeast Asia, and that very diversity is reflected in their sound: the sextet blends surf guitars, neo-psychedelia, and indie folk with gamelan and keroncong, the Indonesian pop music of the 1970s and 80s. The result is a sonic world that feels familiar, distinctive, and surprisingly danceable at the same time.

With singles like «Kota Bandung,» «Djanger,» and «Mang Becak,» they have already shown where the journey is headed. Last year, their self-titled debut album was released, proving that their sound has truly found its home. Live, Nusantara Beat unfold their full potential: the six musicians instantly draw the audience in; the air vibrates, feet refuse to stand still — and you leave the concert feeling like you’ve just returned from a short vacation, only without the sunburn and sandy flip-flops.
