The name—deliberately chosen—sounds Spice Girl’ish. Mel D’s songs, however, are anything but ’90s mainstream: they’re contemporary, melancholic indie pop. Her lyrics revolve around care, solidarity, humanity, togetherness, and empowerment—and around the idea that it’s okay to feel the way you feel.
Music has accompanied the Zurich-based artist since her early teenage years. At some point, somehow, she crossed paths with Dino Brandão, recorded her first tracks with him, and it was he who recommended her to join the band of Swiss German pop troubadour Faber—where she got her first taste of big stages.
With this “backpack” of experience, an almost supernatural stage presence, and her album Young Bones, Mel D comes to Gurten to turn the forest stage into a goosebump-inducing experience—for a few unforgettable moments.
