Haut wie Pelz is a revelation! Apsilon’s debut album, released last year, proves that the rapper from Berlin’s Moabit district is far more than just another trap artist from the German capital. He effortlessly blends rap with singing, delivering one pop-ready gem after the other. What remains unchanged is Apsilon’s sharp observational skills and eloquence, which he uses to deliver razor-sharp social critique. Like someone wielding a scalpel, he dissects the persistent racist structures of our society as well as the dark recesses of the capitalist system. And speaking of sharp instruments, Arda Yolci, Apsilon’s real name, knows his way around them IRL, too: he studied medicine and has plenty of other talents. On our tent stage, however, the grandson of Turkish migrant workers is all about the music. And that’s exactly how it should be—because we can’t wait for him to drop the hits from Haut wie Pelz!
