What a voice! What an energy! What a story!

But let’s start from the beginning: Annie Caldwell is a singer from West Point, Mississippi, who sang gospel from a young age. Later, she got married, started a family, and opened a clothing store. Music took a backseat as life went on.

It wasn’t until Annie’s children grew older and started listening (and singing along!) to secular music that she decided to form her own band—bringing gospel back into their lives to remind them of their Christian upbringing.

The children weren’t just listeners—they became part of the project. A true family band was born! This happened twenty years ago. But it’s only recently that Annie & The Caldwells have stepped into the spotlight with their raw disco-soul sound.

Better late than never—we wholeheartedly agree. The band has not only been honored with a release on David Byrne’s label Luaka Bop and praised by international critics, but they also now tour the world, including a stop at the Güsche. Hallelujah!
