Marwan Abdelhamid is a fusion of many influences, so to speak. With roots in France, Algeria, Palestine, and Serbia, he is fluent in English, Arabic, and French. Born in Jerusalem and raised in Gaza and Jordan, he has called Los Angeles home since 2018. Given this background, it’s no surprise that the music he releases under the name Saint Levant shows a rich tapestry of influences: His contemporary pop blends elements of trap, North African folk, G-funk, Arabic ’80s pop, as well as early 2000s hip-hop and R&B. At the same time, his music reflects his life as a young cosmopolitan—along with his strong stance on the complex history of his homeland. This sometimes sparks controversy, but Marwan remains undeterred. Hit after hit, he continues to deliver a fresh soundtrack to our complex present.
