Bomba Estéreo

Since their beginnings, everyone who has ever seen them live knows that a Bomba Estéreo concert is an unforgettable experience. Formed in Bogotá around singer-songwriter Li Saumet and multi-instrumentalist Simón Mejía, the band has created a genre that leaves no one untouched, crossing traditional Colombian cumbia with stylistic borrowings from rock, electronica, techno, dancehall, reggae, Afro-Caribbean champeta and hip-hop. The result is a unique sound that has found a fan base far beyond the Latin community: Their six studio albums have resulted in nine Latin Grammys and three Grammy nominations, and well over 500 performances worldwide. And their past collaborations are just as impressive: Bad Bunny, Manu Chao, Arcade Fire and Sofi Tukker are among the artists who have accompanied the Colombians on their 20-year journey. On Thursday, the main stage will be the place to be when the whole Gurtenfestival dances to the Caribbean sounds of Bomba Estéreo.
