Gritty garage rock and hypnotic tribal techno – that’s Tshegue’s basic recipe. You might call the delicacy served by the Parisian duo “afropunk,” but if you think you can sit back and enjoy it quietly sitting at the table, you better think again. Tshegue’s music is so electrifying that you can’t help jumping and dancing. The duo consists of singer Faty Sy Savanet, who was born in Kinshasa and lived there until the age of eight, and French-Cuban producer Nicolas “Dakou” Dacunha. They first met at a party in Paris organized by Faty, an event where soul, grime, and hip-hop were played alongside kuduro, gqom, techno, and Congolese music. This wide-ranging mix offers a glimpse into the vast musical universe of Tshegue. “Our music is a blend of who we are and where we come from,” says Faty – and that’s about as well as you could put it. But words alone can’t do Tshegue justice. This duo needs to be experienced live! Only on stage does their high-energy sound unleash its full power. ⚡️⚡️⚡️
