“Take Me Out”, their second single, already cemented the legacy of Franz Ferdinand. The song became synonymous with the indie rock sound of the 2000s and now is considered a classic. Its unmistakable guitar riff, infectious rhythm, and the vocals of frontman Alex Kapranos, which everyone (yes, everyone!) can sing along to, make “Take Me Out” the perfect anthem. The other songs from their debut album, released in 2004, are also genuine indie hits that demonstrate how danceable guitar music can be. Although Franz Ferdinand flirted with various musical directions on subsequent albums – such as electronic music and dub on their 2009 remix album Blood – they have always remained true to their roots: The band, led by Kapranos, is known for its musical craftsmanship and intense live shows, continually proving just how powerful of a great song can be. Now, with their sixth studio album The Human Fear, the British band is showing why, after two decades, they are still considered giants of indie rock.
